Additive Applications Engineer

About The Role Join our applications engineering team as an Additive Applications Engineer and become the go-to technical resource for our customers. In this customer-facing role, you'll be the first line of support, helping businesses successfully integrate our 3D printing solutions into their workflows through hands-on troubleshooting, on-site training, and proactive guidance. You'll work closely with both customers and internal teams to solve real problems and drive meaningful outcomes. What You Will Do
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers, diagnosing and resolving printing and process challenges with a solutions-first mindset
- Conduct structured root-cause analyses and failure investigations to resolve recurring or complex issues
- Deliver on-site customer training, installations, and advanced troubleshooting visits across North America
- Develop material profiles and optimize 3D printing process parameters across a range of applications and materials
- Create high-quality training materials, printing guides, and technical documentation that empower customers to self-serve
- Apply Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles to support customers with complex geometry and process challenges
- Conduct material testing and characterization studies to improve print quality and reliability
- Log customer interactions, cases, and follow-ups accurately in the CRM (HubSpot)
- Provide pre-sales technical support and design consultation
- Represent AON3D at trade shows, conferences, and customer meetings
- Contribute to application notes and case studies that support the broader customer base
What We Are Looking For
- Post-secondary degree in engineering, science, additive manufacturing, or a related technical field
- 3+ years of experience in an applications engineering or technical support role within the 3D printing or advanced manufacturing industry
- Strong troubleshooting instincts and comfort with structured root-cause analysis
- Genuine interest in working directly with customers and solving their technical challenges
- Proficiency with CAD software and DfAM principles
- Experience with FFF/FDM 3D printing processes and slicing software (PrusaSlicer or similar)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to travel visa-free within Canada and the United States (up to 25% of the time)
Preferred:
- Experience with HubSpot or similar CRM platforms for managing customer cases and communications
- Hands-on experience with high-performance engineering materials (PEEK, PEKK, PEI, PI)
- Knowledge of thermoplastic material science and industrial applications
- Familiarity with quality management systems (ISO 9001, AS9100)
- Experience with design of experiments (DOE) or statistical analysis
- Background in manufacturing processes beyond additive manufacturing
- Project management experience
