About the Team
OpenAI for Finance is a specialized team within OpenAI’s B2B Applications organization. B2B Applications builds and operates products that bring cutting-edge research to millions of companies and developers worldwide. The team powers the OpenAI API and Enterprise products that empower people globally to work better and more efficiently. The teams span product engineering, backend infrastructure, and safety to ensure reliable, secure technology delivery with a world-class user experience.
About the Role
We’re looking for backend engineers to help design and scale systems driving the future of AI in finance. We operate like a startup within OpenAI and seek like-minded builders. On March 5, we launched ChatGPT for Excel — just the first step in this space. In this role, you will:
- Own the end-to-end development lifecycle for new platform capabilities and integrations with other systems
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and external customers to understand problems and implement effective solutions
- Work with the research team to improve next-generation models
Your background might look something like:
- 5+ years of professional engineering experience (excluding internships) in relevant roles at tech/product-driven companies
- Former founder or early engineer at a startup who has built a product from scratch is a plus
- Proficiency in one or more backend languages (e.g., Python, Go, Rust, Typescript or similar) and distributed systems concepts
- Enjoy building infrastructure supporting billions of requests and petabytes of data
- Care deeply about reliability, safety, and performance in production environments
- Interest in AI/ML (direct experience not required)
- Proven ability to thrive in fast-growing product-driven companies by navigating loosely defined tasks and managing competing priorities or deadlines

- $230K – $385K • Offers Equity
- The base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
- If non-exempt role: overtime pay provided consistent with laws.
