BMS Integration Engineer

San Jose, California, United States Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise. What You’ll Do: In the BMS Integration Engineer role, you will own integration of hardware and software for Archer’s high voltage battery management system (BMS). Your deliverables will span all phases of the product development life cycle: development, implementation, validation, and continuous improvement. Specifically, you will…

  • Work closely with hardware engineers and software developers to bring up new features in the lab
  • Translate schematics + datasheets into pseudocode, timing diagrams, and interface specs
  • Work hands-on in the lab to set up equipment and instrumentation as-needed
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware-software issues cross-functionally
  • Work with battery test team and mechanical teams to support critical battery pack tests on test sites
  • Develop automated fault injection tests and fixtures to exercise safety-critical diagnostics
  • Consolidate design feedback to inform design for subsequent versions of the BMS hardware

What You Need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
  • Understanding of interactions between hardware and firmware drivers
  • Knowledge of schematic design and PCB layout
  • Familiar with lab equipment such as oscilloscope, logic analyzer, soldering tools, crimp tools
  • Familiarity with microcontroller peripheral interfaces, including SPI, CAN, UART
  • Proficiency in scripting languages, e.g., Python
  • Experience with requirement management tools
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Collaborative mindset, willingness to step in and support where needed
  • Passion for learning and problem solving

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience designing for HV battery systems in both aviation and automotive contexts
  • Experience with new product development in regulated industries (e.g., aviation, medical devices)
  • Experience with ISO 26262, ISO 15118, or DO-160G standards
  • Experience with DO-178C software verification and ARP4754 development process
