About the Role

Were looking for a Data Product Engineer to help us turn data into one of Karats most powerful product advantages. This is a high-impact, highly cross-functional role for someone who thinks like a product builder but operates deep in the data stack. Youll own the systems that transform raw data into trusted models, internal insights, and customer-facing experiences that drive real business outcomes. Beyond building pipelines and dashboards, youll explore how to productize data 1 powering internal decision-making, enabling smarter automation, and creating data experiences that delight customers. Youll work across analytics, data engineering, and product surfaces to ensure our data is not just accurate, but actionable and beautifully expressed. If you love turning messy data into elegant, high-leverage products that people actually use, this role is for you. This position is based in Los Angeles, CA. The compensation for this role is between $130k to $170k.

What youll do:

Build the data foundation

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data models in Snowflake
  • Develop reliable ETL/ELT pipelines to ensure timely, trustworthy data
  • Improve data quality, testing, and observability across the stack
  • Establish best practices for metrics definitions and semantic consistency

Productize data internally

  • Build high-impact datasets and dashboards in Sigma used across product, ops, risk, and finance
  • Partner with teams to turn ambiguous questions into clear, trusted metrics
  • Automate manual reporting and operational workflows
  • Drive adoption and best practices for data usage across the company

Ship customer-facing data experiences

  • Help design and build data features embedded in Karats product surfaces
  • Create clear, intuitive data visualizations that help creators understand their business
  • Partner with product and design to translate complex financial data into simple UX
  • Identify opportunities to turn internal insights into customer value

Leverage AI and automation

  • Build AI-powered workflows that unlock more value from Karats data
  • Support LLM-enabled analytics and internal copilots
  • Explore new ways to combine structured data + AI for step-function leverage

What you'll need:

  • 4+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or data-heavy product roles
  • Exceptional SQL skills and strong data modeling fundamentals
  • Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines (dbt, Airflow, or similar)
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake or modern cloud warehouses
  • Strong Python (or similar) for data workflows and automation
  • Experience with BI tools (Sigma, Looker, Mode, etc.) and semantic layers
  • Strong product intuition — you care about usability, clarity, and impact
  • Comfort working cross-functionally with product, ops, risk, and finance
  • High ownership mindset and bias toward shipping

Nice to have:

  • Experience building customer-facing analytics or data products
  • FinTech or payments experience
  • Experience with reverse ETL or operational analytics
  • Familiarity with data visualization best practices and UX principles
  • Experience building AI/LLM-powered data workflows
  • dbt experience
