The Team: Upstart’s Credit Analytics team is at the center of how we understand, forecast, and communicate credit performance across the company. The team builds the frameworks, infrastructure, and insights that connect our AI-driven underwriting, portfolio performance, and funding strategy, ensuring our decisions are grounded in a rigorous and forward-looking view of risk and return. As the Director, Analytics (Credit Analytics) at Upstart, you will lead and scale a horizontal analytics organization spanning credit forecasting & valuation and risk capital. You will set the vision, roadmap, and operating model for this area—developing leaders and ICs, upleveling our analytical foundations,and unifying how we tell our credit story internally and externally in close partnership with Machine Learning,Fina nce ,Capital ,and investor-facing analytics teams. How you’ll make an impact

  • Own and evolve the Credit Analytics vision and roadmap across credit forecasting & valuationand risk capital ,building a high-performing team of managersand analystsand setting a strong bar for analytical rigor ,execution ,and collaboration .
  • Lead the implementation ,enhancement ,and disciplined use of foundational credit forecastingand valuation frameworks that underpin financial planning ,portfolio performance monitoring ,and investor narratives—ensuring our forecastsand asset valuations are robust ,explainable ,and subject to bank-grade governance .
  • Own the operations ,measurement ,and reporting for risk capital, which represents themajorityof Upstart’s funding base—developing capital analytics ,stress scenarios ,and risk appetite frameworks that support seamless executionof risk capital dealsand disciplined portfolio management .
  • Partner with product ,engineering ,and capital stakeholders to defineand build thenext generationof creditand capital infrastructureand tooling, including data models,pipelines,and dashboards that enable scalable,self-serve insightsfor analystsand leaders across the company .
  • Unify Upstart’s internaland external credit risk narrative in close collaborationwith MLandinvestor-and capital-focused analytics peers ,translating complex performance drivers into clear ,executive-ready insightsand recommendations that guide funding strategy ,deal structures,and long-term risk-reward tradeoffs .
  • Develop ,coach,and empower your team—including both people leadersandsenior ICs—by establishing best practices,elevating technicaland business problem-solving,and fostering acultureof ownership,c curiosity,and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional experiencein analytics,risk ,or quantitative finance rolesin technology ,fintech ,or financial services,includ ing5+ years leadingand developing analyticsand/or risk management teams .
  • Experience buildingand deploying credit risk / loss forecastingand portfolio valuation frameworksfor consumercredit or comparable lending businesses .
  • Hands-on experiencewith structured financeand/or risk capital(for example,securitizations ,warehouse facilities ,forward-flow or other institutional funding structures ),including comfort workingwith cash flow ,return,and risk metrics .
  • Advanced proficiencyin SQLand at least one analytical programming language(such as Python or R ),with demonstrated experience workingwith large datasetsand modern data platformsand BI tools .
  • Degreein Quantitative Finance/Economics ,Statistics ,Engineering ,Data Science ,or another quantitative field(or equivalent practical experience).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Track recordof integrating credit ,finance,and capital perspectives into unified analytical frameworksand narratives that influence senior executivesand cross-functional leaders .
  • Experience buildingor modernizing credit forecasting ,valuation,and/or capital analytics infrastructure(e.g.,data models,pipelines,dashboards ,automated reporting )in partnershipwith engineeringand ML teams .
  • Proven abilityto mentorand coach both managersandsenior ICs on technical depth,business judgment,and stakeholder influence .
  • Experience workingwith internalandexternal audits ,controls,and governance(for example ,SOX ,or valuation reviews )relatedto credit models ,asset valuations ,or risk capital structures .
  • Comfort operatingina hands-on,strategic leadership role—ableto dive into the dataand details when needed while maintaining aclear viewof long-term goals,tr adeoffs,and priorities.

Position location This role is availablein the following locations: Remote Time zone requirements The team operates onthe East/West coast time zones. Travel requirements Asa digital first company,the majorityof your work can be accomplished remotely.The majorityof our employees can liveand work anywherein the U.S but are encouragedto still spend high quality timein-person collaborating via regular onsites.The in-person sessions’ cadence varies dependingonthe teamand role; most teams meet once or twice per quarterfor2-4 consecutive days at a time.
