As the Director of Engineering for Infrastructure, you’ll lead several multidisciplinary teams building, supporting, and evolving Zapier's core services, platforms, and infrastructure. Your work directly enables every product team at Zapier to move faster and build better quality products. This is a leadership role with scope to build. Zapier is investing in platform engineering as a strategic priority, and you'll shape what that looks like: vision, scalability, accountability mechanisms, and how the organization operates. Many of the processes and systems your teams need don't exist yet. You will build them, partnering closely with our VP of Engineering and dedicated Platform PMs. You'd be joining at a formative and transformational stage. This is a build role where you'll be responsible for shaping the direction, not inheriting a finished state. Key Responsibilities include:

• Defining platform vision & strategy aligned with internal developer needs and Zapier's strategy
• Driving AI transformation in platform engineering operations to minimize reactive work and KTLO (Keep-The-Lights-On) tasks
• Improving developer experience and velocity by unblocking software delivery pain points through platforms and tooling
• Ensuring reliability and uptime of core infrastructure in partnership with service-owning teams; coordinating during major incidents
• Building and growing teams by recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and developing next-generation leaders

Candidate Profile ("About You"):

• Experience building internal infrastructure platforms loved by engineering teams with strong customer feedback loops
• Hands-on use of AI coding agents/orchestration tools to transform engineering work with measurable impact
• Proven ability to build teams and systems from scratch in 0-to-1 environments amid organizational change and ambiguity
• Deep customer orientation with mechanisms to prioritize based on internal developer needs and external partners
• Skilled at scaling platform engineering organizations managing managers and technical leaders focused on developer outcomes
• Data-driven approach to measuring engineering velocity, quality, balancing velocity, cost, functionality tradeoffs
• Passionate mentor/coach developing engineers and leaders with clear growth frameworks
• Effective communicator using proactive, clear writing and appropriate synchronous/asynchronous communication methods
• Champion efficiency leveraging AI-first thinking to scale impact beyond immediate team
