Job Description

Electrical Engineer, User Terminals - TeraWave

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! Blue Origin is pioneering the future of space-based communications with TeraWave, a revolutionary satellite communications network designed to deliver symmetrical data speeds of up to 6 Tbps anywhere on Earth. This multi-orbit constellation will consist of optically interconnected satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO), providing enterprise-grade connectivity for critical operations worldwide.

Role Summary

  • Founding hire to own user terminal board design.
  • Define schematic and layout for new product line alongside RF, ASIC, antenna engineers.
  • Develop family of terminals at different capability/cost points.
  • Focus on power and heat challenges due to mmWave phased array apertures.
  • Mixed-signal power integrity and thermal co-design problem.
  • Interface between digital and RF worlds; co-design with in-house RF/antenna teams.

Core Responsibilities

  • Own schematic capture and layout strategy for user terminal logic boards and aperture PCBAs.
  • Lead multi-layer, high-density interconnect PCB design with isolation between digital, IF, mmWave routing.
  • Design power delivery networks for high current with dynamic load behavior.
  • Collaborate on board-level thermal design and heat extraction.
  • Work with RF, antenna, ASIC engineers on PCB-to-radiating element interface.
  • Design high-speed data buses and clock distribution networks; manage signal integrity aspects.
  • Perform signal integrity, power integrity, crosstalk, EMI simulation/analysis.
  • Contribute to component selection considering availability, lead time, cost.
  • Drive design for manufacturability/test with fabricators/assembly partners.
  • Lead physical bring-up, hardware debug, functional lab characterization of prototypes.
  • Support qualification and regulatory compliance testing for intentional radiator.
  • Establish electrical design practices, review standards, documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years experience in complex hardware product development (telecom infrastructure,...
