This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. As part of a hardworking team of system safety and reliability engineers, you will design, assess, and assure the safety of electronic hardware in computer systems including simple and complex electronic hardware (PLDs, ASICs, FPGAs) for sub-orbital and orbital spacecraft, launch vehicles, and facilities. You will help maintain safety and process assurance objectives for electronic hardware; work with systems/software/hardware responsible engineers to identify and verify compliance with safety requirements, including process requirements; help systems, electrical engineers, and software engineers understand how to develop safety requirements from PHAs, FHAs, FMECAs, FTAs, and Human Error Assessments; review and approve safety analyses that support requirements identification, validation, and verification; audit program compliance to safety and assurance objectives; review and approve safety requirements for electronic hardware; review the risk characterization of open problems and safety risks; perform compliance assessments of our system safety processes and products against safety standards including (not inclusive) Range Safety, NASA, FAA, MIL-STD-882, and RTCA DO-254; generate metrics and report on program system safety status; and participate in actively maintaining a healthy system safety culture. You will be a member of the Safety, Quality and Mission Assurance (SQMA) System Safety Engineering and Certification team. This position will directly impact human spaceflight safety by ensuring electronic hardware and computer systems meet rigorous safety standardsand will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support development and safety assurance of custom electronic hardware devices (PLDs, ASICs, FPGAs), complex COTS ICs,... multi-core computer systems,... complex circuit boards across spacecraft... launch systems
  • Collaborate with systems... derive/verify safety requirements from PHAs,... FHAs,... FMECAs,... FTAs,... human error analyses
  • Review/approve safety analyses/requirements for electronic hardware; assess risk characterizations/open technical risks
  • Perform independent assessments/reviews against applicable standards (RTCA DO-254,... MIL-STD-882,... NASA,... Range Safety,... FAA)
  • Generate program safety metrics/report system status; contribute continual process improvement

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.Sc.... aerospace,... electrical,... systems engineering or related field
  • 5+ years engineering experience in development assurance involving complex electronic hardware; at least 2 years involvement generating compliance claims to standards
  • Strong foundation in system safety analysis/regulatory compliance (experience with PHAs,... FHAs,... FMECAs,... FTAs,... DO-254,... MIL-STD-882)
  • Excellent written/verbal communication; ability work independently/cross-disciplinary teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience integrated modular avionics systems safety
  • Experience FAA AC 20-152A (latest guidance updates DO-254)
  • Familiarity STPA/academic foundations software system safety
  • Prior experience developing/auditing IEC61508/ISO26262/RTCA/DO178C plus

Compensation Range for: WA applicants is $121023 - $169432 annually (other sites may differ)
