Impact of a FinOps Analyst
- Apply technical and financial expertise to ensure efficient and scalable cloud infrastructure.
- Core contributor to FinOps practice translating cloud consumption data into actionable insights.
- Manage day-to-day unit economics of cloud environment balancing innovation and fiscal responsibility.
- Act as technical bridge between Engineering and Finance.
- Help teams adopt best practices for resource tagging, commitment utilization, and waste reduction.
- Ensure transparency, predictability, and optimization of cloud investments.
What to expect
Operational Execution & Roadmap
Contribute to and execute FinOps roadmap aligned with business objectives.
Reporting & Metrics
Maintain key FinOps metrics; analyze billing data; provide clear reports on cost drivers.
Partnership
Collaborate with Engineering & Product teams to integrate FinOps principles into deployment cycles.
Stakeholder Enablement
Deliver awareness programs and documentation; primary contact for transparency between technical execution and financial expectations.
Financial Controllership
Support Finance with usage data for budget forecasting; ensure adherence to financial controls and compliance.
Commitment Monitoring
Monitor and optimize Reserved Instances (RIs), Savings Plans, Committed Use Discounts (CUDs).
CSP & Vendor Analysis
Track Cloud Service Provider pricing/service changes; recommend adjustments.
Optimization Initiatives
Lead cost-saving projects using data analysis and experimentation.
What you bring
- Data Manipulation: Advanced proficiency in SQL and Excel/Google Sheets mandatory; comfortable with BI tools (Tableau, Looker, PowerBI).
- Experience: 4+ years in FinOps or cloud cost management; understanding of cloud architectural impact on costs.
- Cloud Domain Knowledge: Experience managing billing/discount mechanisms (RIs, CUDs) on at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Analytical Rigor: Ability to prioritize based on cost fluctuations; break down complex billing data into actionable insights for technical/financial stakeholders.
- Collaborative Mindset: Strong communication skills; resilience; effective cross-functional teamwork.
Nice to have
- Active FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) certification.
- Understanding of FOCUS (FinOps Open Cost & Usage Specification).
- Familiarity with ESG reporting correlating cloud efficiency with carbon footprint metrics.
Where we hire
Remote work is foundational at Upsun. The company has team members in over 30 countries but is currently hiring this role only in Canada or Spain. No visa sponsorship available. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in these countries.
