Join the power movement as an Instrument and Control Valve Commissioning Technician
The SPARC Plant Instrumentation and Control Team seeks an experienced Instrumentation and Control Valve Installation and Commissioning Technician for installation, calibration, commissioning testing, and troubleshooting of sensing and control equipment for a large variety of components from multiple manufacturers. Process systems include cooling water, HVAC, cryogenic fluids, ultra-high vacuum, various gases, and radiation monitoring. Equipment types range from standard process fluid measurements and controls (e.g., temperature, flow, level, air operated valves) to sensors measuring cryogenic temperatures as low as 8 Kelvin, vacuums in the micro-Torr range, with flows controlled by piezo control valves. Component interfaces include hardwired, Profibus (DP and PA), Profinet, Modbus, BacNET, and possibly others.
What you'll do:
- Collaborate with fluid system designers and I&C designers to understand equipment types and interface protocols in designs
- Utilize manufacturer literature and other resources to develop expertise in installation and testing of equipment and interface protocols
- Use engineering deliverables such as P&IDs, instrument lists, signal lists, loop diagrams, data sheets, cabling schedules to commission components and systems
- Perform troubleshooting on equipment and communication links
- Communicate issues clearly to supervisor or I&C design engineers when discrepancies or unexpected results occur
- Determine and procure necessary test equipment and tools to support work
- Ensure safety is always the first priority in any testing activity
- Train other technicians and equipment operators in I&C equipment commissioning and troubleshooting
- Report on progress to supervisor
What we’re looking for:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 6+ years experience installing, commissioning, troubleshooting instrumentation and control equipment in industries such as oil & gas, nuclear, chemical
- Experience using/analyzing output of test equipment needed for calibrations/troubleshooting described equipment
- Experience verifying/tuning instrument control loops
- Experience with safety procedures/processes in construction environment
- Experience training technicians/equipment operators in I&C equipment installation/commissioning/troubleshooting
- Experience documenting results in a database
Bonus points:
- Experience installing/commissioning/troubleshooting instrumentation/control equipment in cryogenics or ultra high vacuum systems
- Experience with Siemens PLCs, I/O modules and TIA Portal
- Experience entering/retrieving information from AVEVA or Smart Plant Instrumentation or other database systems
