About the role

Shopify is seeking a Lead on the Multimedia Growth team to transform how our video + audio content moves from idea to global impact. Our Multimedia team creates educational and inspirational content that guides millions of entrepreneurs through their journey through our “How To” edutainment style YouTube channel and award-winning podcast featuring Shopify merchants. The focal point of this role will be supporting the 'Learn with Shopify’ and ‘Shopify Masters’ YouTube and podcast channels in scaling our systems––increasing content distribution globally while upholding the bar for high quality content. This isn't about producing content yourself—but enabling our production machine to multiply content across multiple channels and markets, in order to reach millions of entrepreneurs worldwide. This role is multi-disciplinary by nature. You’re comfortable digging into production pipelines and content output––understanding where there are opportunities to do it better, faster and at scale, while retaining a high quality bar. You possess a strong understanding of YouTube as a platform––with experience driving successful content or series outcomes and a full understanding of organic measurement metrics. You don’t mind getting your hands dirty, overseeing external vendors and being present on set to support our production teams as needed. Most importantly, you're energized by the challenge of integrating AI into creation and execution, knowing when technology accelerates the work and when the human touch is non-negotiable. What You're Walking Into You're not starting from zero. We have a lean and established content program that produces thousands of multimedia (video, audio, and spin-off) assets annually. Your job is to take what's already working and make it better. See new opportunities in the ever-evolving digital landscape and build toward them. Figure out how to make our content more useful and compelling as platforms and opportunities evolve. This role features an in studio production requirement at least once a quarter and up to once a month in our LA studio. Duties of this role include the following:

  • Oversee the content pipeline—from creative briefs, scripts and content formats to final distribution—ensuring every asset flows seamlessly across our ecosystem.
  • Be the arbitrator of quality to ensure all deliverables are produced to a high standard and align with channel creative while shipping quickly.
  • Execute the distribution of our organic content globally, including AI asset translation, bespoke content, publishing and quality control across each market's content mix.
  • Design and implement AI-powered workflows and scalable systems that turn our content production from linear to exponential.
  • Serve as a partner to our YouTube strategist, collaborating on insights that allow us to optimize the output, and produce content that drives continuous growth.
  • Enable our team of producers (video, digital and podcast) to output high quality work by managing our roster of external vendors and problem solving for recurring system pain points.
  • Collaborate with SEO, editorial, paid, and organic teams on new or ongoing distribution requests that ensure we're delivering the right content for the right channel at the right time.

Note: You won't manage people directly, but you'll be a leader who makes our producers' lives easier, multiplies their impact, and models what great looks like at Shopify. This role reports into the Senior Lead, Multimedia. Skills Required:

  • Proven experience in building and understanding production systems. You see content production not as individual projects but as interconnected systems. You've built workflows that scale, implemented processes that stick, and have a strong point of view on how to multiply creative output without sacrificing quality.
  • Proven experience with YouTube content and platform management. You deeply understand YouTube's ecosystem—from algorithm optimization to audience retention, from thumbnail strategy to series programming. You've produced content specifically for YouTube at scale and can speak fluently about what makes content win on the platform. Bonus points for experience with video podcasts.
  • Proven experience building with AI. You don't just use AI—you think AI-first. You've already implemented AI into workflows and can speak to the results.
  • Experience working across international markets and teams.
  • Effective communicator who can handle multiple projects from beginning to end under tight and evolving deadlines.
  • Self-starter who can work independently with little supervision and also collaborate effectively with a team.
  • Hold an extremely high bar for creative and can evaluate the tradeoffs that allow us to operate at speed without sacrificing quality.
  • An inherent curiosity about new tools and solutions, excited about AI's potential, and always experimenting.

The Reality Check This role is challenging. You'll be building the plane while flying it. You'll need to move fast while maintaining quality. You'll be the bridge between creative and operations, strategy and execution. If you need perfect clarity and established processes, this isn't for you. But if you thrive in building something new and transformative, this is your role. LA/West Coast Preferred: This role will be centered on working near our LA production hub.
