Job Description:
The Lead Production Technician is responsible for leading a fast-paced and agile team building the world’s strongest high temperature superconducting magnets and assemblies for integration into CFS fusion devices. The role involves continuously improving production tasks, maintaining schedules with resourcing, and assuring quality requirements are met per documentation. The technician team works hands-on with mechanical, electrical, magnetic, cryogenic, pressure, vacuum, and pneumatic systems.
What you'll do:
- Hire, lead, and support training of a team of technicians and welders to build electromechanical parts and assemblies focusing on quality, cost, and delivery
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team of manufacturing engineers and technicians to develop and qualify new manufacturing techniques and processes
- Perform production hardware builds according to procedures, specifications, and test instructions based on scheduling
- Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing discrepancies with a focus on continuous improvement
- Use various mechanical and precision calibrated tools such as torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, hand and power tools
- Ensure all technicians adhere to safety and work area cleanliness standards
- Provide feedback to supervisor during biannual performance reviews
- Manage and approve timecards
- Perform other related job duties as assigned by management
What we’re looking for:
- High school diploma/equivalency certificate or higher
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a formal leadership role in a manufacturing setting
- Minimum 6 years’ experience in various technical skills including mechanical and electrical assembly, plumbing, vacuum systems, epoxy potting, injection molding, cryogenic systems, soldering, wiring
- Commitment to safety and quality with ability to communicate this to your team
- Strong accountability for self and team
- Ability to lead a team with clear direction
- Ability to take directions from supervisors and work independently
- Desire to work in a fast-paced environment with daily changes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for daily/weekly goals with team
- Meticulous attention to detail and cleanliness in hands-on work
- Patience to work through projects from start to finish including assembly and testing
Bonus points for:
- Experience with Lean manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma principles
- Experience with winding equipment of any type
Must-have Requirements:
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stoop, type, stand or sit for extended periods of time
- Dedication to safety mitigating industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, cryogenics
- Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
Compensation:
$32 - $52 an hour (Salary range for this full-time position + equity + benefits) The actual salary depends on level, location, qualifications, experience.
