Our machine learning teams are powering everything from product discovery and search to risk assessment, foundational models, and our revolutionary Sidekick AI assistant. We're looking for a specialized Recruiter who can help us find the exceptional talent needed to continue building what's next.
Responsibilities
You’ll manage end to end recruiting for engineers focused on ML, AI and genAI. You’ll be deeply embedded in understanding this evolving job market and what makes not only great talent, but folks who align with Shopify’s mission. As an individual contributor, you’ll conduct our unique Life Story interview, breaking from conventional interviewing to truly understand your candidates. You’ll partner with the business, and keep on top of trends. You’ll nerd out about the same things that make your candidates tick. This role offers meaningful impact at scale. Two decades supporting merchants have equipped us with a historic dataset capturing at high definition the stories of millions of businesses. It condenses a lot of deep knowledge about the way businesses exist in the world and the choices they make along the way. This is the raw material that fuels our work. You’ll be hiring the talent who will utilize this data to continue to build for merchants.
Qualifications
- Experienced full-cycle technical recruiter with 10+ years of experience hiring for engineering roles. You're a full-cycle recruiter. You can handle everything from assessing needs, partnering with the business, from sourcing to interviewing to closing
- You're an AI/ML hiring expert. You've spent at least 3-5 years specifically recruiting for artificial intelligence, machine learning, or related technical roles. You understand the difference between ML engineers, research scientists, and applied scientists. You can speak credibly about transformers, embeddings, LLMs, and the latest developments in AI.
- You care about the craft of talent acquisition and you're passionate about continuing to make it relevant in this era of technological change.
- You can execute quickly on a high number of reqs, without sacrificing quality. You balance speed with finding the right technical fit for highly specialized roles.
- You're incredibly curious. We interview deep at Shopify. We think a person's past predicts their future and we rely on our recruiters to truly understand a candidate's suitability for the company, not just a role. For AI/ML roles, this means deeply understanding candidates' research, contributions to the field, and how they approach complex technical problems.
- You can sell the vision. We want builders, tinkerers, and explorers: people who are curious, imaginative, and obsessed with their craft. We don't care about credentials. We like researchers who are unafraid of production systems and engineers who know their way around the arXiv. We want people who feel uncomfortable when they are placed in specialized boxes. You can articulate why Shopify is a compelling place for AI/ML talent.
- You've worked for a fast-scaling, technology company before, ideally one with a strong AI/ML engineering function.
