Role Overview:
- Engineering Manager to lead Verticalized Shopping team (mobile and backend).
- Make every Pin actionable from inspiration to purchase.
- Own technical vision and execution for shopping experiences across Ads, Content, Growth.
- Pioneer use of generative AI to convert human inspiration into clear next steps for users.
- Work closely with Product, Design, Data Science, commerce partnerships.
- Hire and grow engineers, set high standards for craft and speed.
- Build systems/processes enabling best work while shaping commerce future on Pinterest.
Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end mobile and backend team making Pins shoppable/actionable.
- Own technical roadmap for verticalized shopping across Ads, Content, Growth.
- Pioneer generative AI use to turn inspiration into actionable steps for Pinners.
- Drive experiment-led culture focusing on utility, retention, revenue.
- Hire and inspire high caliber engineers.
- Integrate AI-driven personalization/recommendation systems improving conversion/user satisfaction across Ads, Content, Growth surfaces.
- Lead rapid design/prototyping/scaling of AI-powered experiments.
- Build technical harness, context retrieval, prompt orchestration, evaluation, guardrails for LLM systems ensuring predictability, quality, production readiness.
Qualifications:
- 9+ years software engineering experience; 3+ years engineering management leading end-to-end product teams.
- Thought leader and cross-functional partner driving innovation and high performance.
- Experience building large scale distributed systems and mobile experiences in consumer/ads/commerce domains.
- Comfortable with experiments, metrics, ambiguity; data-driven fast iteration for product-market fit.
- Excitement about applied generative AI turning content into action for users/merchants/advertisers.
- Proven success leveraging generative AI or machine learning to build scalable consumer products focusing on experiment velocity and recommendation quality.
- Ability to build technology/processes/playbooks harnessing LLMs effectively with proper context/controls for reliable outputs.
- Enthusiasm for creating frameworks/team culture using AI as force multiplier accelerating learning/efficiency/innovation in shopper engagement and commerce tech.
Additional Information:
- Position not eligible for relocation assistance.
- Hybrid work model: in-office collaboration 1–2 times per quarter; must be commutable to Toronto office (85 Richmond St. W).
