Role Summary:

The Software Development Manager will lead the team building Percona Monitoring and Management (PMM), a free and open-source platform for monitoring SQL/NoSQL databases and servers. The manager will grow and manage a distributed team of developers and testers, develop efficient processes, select tools, ensure high delivery pace, and collaborate across teams to handle complex development requirements. Emphasis is on people development and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage a distributed team of 10 developers and testers remotely
• Drive software delivery focusing on velocity, predictability, and accountability
• Manage scope, workload, blockers, and resource changes to ensure reliable delivery
• Coach, mentor, and support team members with regular 1:1s and feedback
• Collaborate with development teams, product managers/owners to maintain transparency and empower decision-making
• Improve processes and efficiencies through technology and automation
• Take strong ownership of team results

Required Experience:

• 5+ years leading/managing development teams
• Experience managing agile engineering teams delivering multiple products or SaaS applications (preferably both)
• Software development experience in languages such as Java/Python/Angular/JavaScript or similar (Go and React used at Percona)
• Cross-team facilitation skills
• Knowledge of open source software
• Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize/manage/budget/deliver on time
• Excellent English communication skills (verbal/written)
• Project management skills including decomposing projects into tasks and risk management
• Self-directed with ability to operate independently
• Ability to build relationships across the organization
