Operations Manager, Legal - Job Description
Location: Remote (North America or the United Kingdom) Type: Full-time Role Summary: The Operations Manager, Legal will design and scale systems, processes, and tools to enable the legal function to operate efficiently and have maximum impact. This role involves coordinating workflows, streamlining cross-functional communication, prioritizing legal work, and using data, process, and technology to drive consistency, transparency, and scalability. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day operations of the legal function including planning, prioritization, and tracking of team workstreams and initiatives.
- Act as point of contact between Legal and cross-functional partners (Finance, PeopleOps, Sales, Product, go-to-market) ensuring clear communication and coordination.
- Maintain and improve legal processes, playbooks, templates, and standard operating procedures focusing on standardization and automation.
- Partner with finance for budgeting, forecasting, and tracking legal spend to support financial planning and operational efficiency.
- Implement, administer, and optimize legal technology tools (e.g., contract management via Ironclad; vendor evaluation via Omnea), including onboarding and training.
- Design and manage intake, triage, and allocation workflows for legal requests ensuring proper scoping, prioritization, and assignment within the team.
- Develop metrics, dashboards, and regular reporting (volume, cycle times, KPIs) to provide visibility into legal work for informed decision-making.
- Coordinate legal team cadences (meetings, offsites, quarterly planning) and drive follow-up on actions/projects.
- Lead cross-functional projects involving the legal function such as contract negotiations, policy rollouts, system migrations by managing timelines and stakeholder alignment.
- Identify and source tools to support legal operations partnering with IT, finance, business stakeholders to assess requirements and implement solutions improving efficiency and ROI on legal spend.

Qualifications & Experience:
- 3+ years in operations/project management or similar roles (business operations/legal operations/practice management/PMO).
- Experience in a law firm or in-house legal department preferred but not required.
- Legal qualification (LLB/JD or equivalent) is a plus but not mandatory.
- Proven experience improving processes/managing business systems/tools in fast-paced environments.
- Strong project management/organizational skills managing multiple stakeholders/priorities with deadline delivery.
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills able to translate between legal/non-legal audiences.
- Comfortable working with data including creating dashboards/reports to influence decisions/improvements.
- High ownership/initiative with pragmatic service-oriented mindset.
