The Team: Upstart’s Capital Platform team builds the systems that enable capital to flow through Upstart’s marketplace reliably, transparently, and at scale. The team owns the core platform capabilities used by banks, credit unions, and institutional investors to onboard, configure lending programs, execute originations and loan sales, and monitor portfolio performance. Operating at the intersection of product, engineering, capital markets, finance, and compliance, the Capital Platform team focuses on building enterprise-grade, configurable, and reusable infrastructure that supports a growing and increasingly diverse set of capital partners across products. This team is responsible for foundational platform capabilities including partner integrations, capital execution workflows, and capital insights and reporting — with an increasing emphasis on white-label and embedded capital solutions that allow partners to leverage Upstart’s technology within their own ecosystems. As a Principal Product Manager, Capital Platform, you will be a senior, hands-on individual contributor owning strategy and execution for one of Upstart’s most complex and high-impact capital platform problem spaces. This role is well suited for a Staff+ IC who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys building enterprise-grade platforms from first principles, and wants to shape how lenders and investors integrate with Upstart at scale. You will lead multi-quarter initiatives that cut across product, engineering, finance, and compliance, and deliver durable, extensible systems that serve both current and future capital partners. A key focus area for this role is the development and platformization of white-label and embedded capital solutions for enterprise partners. These solutions enable banks, credit unions, and investors to originate, fund, and manage loans using Upstart’s capital infrastructure while maintaining configurability, compliance, and operational rigor. Depending on business needs and background, this role may also be scoped to other core capital platform problem spaces.

What you'll do

Lead product strategy & execution for complex capital platform initiatives impacting multiple teams & stakeholders
Collaborate closely with engineering leadership & cross-functional partners including finance & compliance
Drive development of white-label & embedded capital solutions enabling partners’ use of Upstart technology within their ecosystems
Own product roadmap prioritization balancing business needs & technical feasibility
Define clear success metrics & monitor performance post-launch
Engage directly with key partners & internal stakeholders gathering feedback & iterating rapidly
Mentor junior product managers & contribute to overall product org growth & culture

Experience & Background

8+ years product management experience ideally in fintech or financial services technology companies
Proven track record delivering complex software products end-to-end
Deep understanding of lending platforms/capital markets preferred but not required
Strong analytical skills leveraging data-driven decision making
Excellent communication skills influencing cross-functional teams & executives
Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments requiring creative problem solving & initiative

Technical Skills & Tools

Familiarity with SaaS platforms & APIs integration patterns (REST/GraphQL)
Experience working closely with engineering teams using Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban)
Comfortable interpreting financial data & metrics relevant to lending/capital markets
Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure preferred but not required
Proficiency with collaboration tools like JIRA/Confluence/Slack/GitHub etc.
