The Team

Marketplace Optimization team builds and scales systems that clear Upstart’s marketplace balancing tradeoffs for borrowers, lenders, investors, and Upstart.
Enables borrowers to access credit and capital partners to deploy capital efficiently.

Role: Principal Product Manager, Marketplace Optimization

Partner with Machine Learning to optimize marketplace systems.
Work with engineering and business teams to simplify and automate system operations.
Design experiments to test ideas.
Define and hit goals for every side of Upstart’s marketplace.

How You’ll Make an Impact

Create mechanisms that clear Upstart’s marketplace improving rates for customers and returns for capital partners.
Shape algorithms for participant matching and define rules for stable outcomes at scale.
Collaborate on vision and strategy with Machine Learning, business teams, and engineering.
Help customers save money and capital partners earn superior risk-adjusted returns.

Minimum Qualifications

8+ years experience in a marketplace product management role.
Demonstrated success leading engineering teams on pricing, monetization, matching, routing, incentives initiatives.
Ability to build relationships across all organizational levels including C-level.
Skilled in persuasion, negotiation, consensus building.

Preferred Qualifications

Academic degree in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, Operations Research.
Hands-on experience applying optimization and simulation to business problems.
Experience driving automation reducing manual operational workflows.
Background in marketplace pricing, matching or capital/finance products; able to translate business constraints into system configurations.
Strong experiment design and analysis experience (A/B testing, offline simulations).

Remote role available.

Time Zone Requirements

Team operates on East/West coast time zones.

Travel Requirements

Majority of work can be done remotely.
Employees encouraged to spend quality time in-person via regular onsites (1–2 times per quarter for 2–4 days).

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $187,900—$260,000 USD (varies by geographic location) Additional Compensation: Target bonuses, equity compensation Benefits Include:
