Job Description
IonQ is looking for a Quantum Sales Executive to join a cross-functional team focused on commercializing IonQ’s Quantum Hardware, Software, and Applications. The role involves building and leading sales outreach for State & Local Government and Education sectors (SLED). This is an individual contributor role with potential to build a team in the future.
Responsibilities
- Create and execute IonQ’s SLED sales strategy.
- Identify new opportunities with State, local, Higher Ed, and Academic institutions.
- Develop a pipeline of sales opportunities for IonQ’s Quantum Computers.
- Work with customers to identify and collaborate on new use cases.
- Qualify opportunities based on budget availability, skills, interest, executive commitment, and timing.
- Form proposals for access to IonQ’s system via the cloud, remote dedicated system, or “on-prem” dedicated system considering State and local restrictions.
- Negotiate agreements and close business relationships.
- Drive customer satisfaction; escalate any inhibitors or concerns related to the relationship to the broader team.
Qualifications
You’d be a good fit with:
- An undergraduate degree in Science, Engineering, Math, Computer Science or another relevant technical field (STEM).
- Minimum of 15 years experience in Sales/Business Development with quota carrying responsibilities.
- Existing relationships with Academic and Government stakeholders.
- Proven team player with leadership abilities and willingness to get hands dirty to get the job done.
You’d be a great fit with:
- Knowledge in Quantum Computing Platforms, Algorithms, Applications (AI/ML at minimum).
- Experience in category creation selling (creating compelling approaches to sell solutions not usually named in customer budgets).
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of business drivers and use of technology in SLED sector.
- Proven negotiating skills.
Salary Details
The approximate base salary range for this position is $164,921 - $215,063. Compensation varies depending on factors including market location, knowledge, skills, and experience. Total compensation includes variable bonus and equity components.

Location Information
IonQ's headquarters is located in College Park, Maryland (near Washington DC). They have a manufacturing/production facility in Bothell, WA (near Seattle). Other offices include Toronto, Canada and Basel, Switzerland. Some roles may require proximity to these offices but remote work is supported.
