Senior Automation QA Engineer - Unreal Engine Ecosystem (Brazil/Mexico)

Tags/Skills/Technologies: GitHub Actions, Unreal Engine, CI/CD, SDET, C++ Work Location and Remote Policy: Work fully remote, globally About the Role This is a contractor position through X-Team. We are seeking a Senior Technical QA / SDET (Unreal Engine Systems) to join our partner's centralized Unreal Ecosystem team. Operating across multiple internal game teams in a fast-paced environment, their core engineering organization powers shared engine tools, plugin compatibility, and client-backend integrations. Because they manage foundation-level tech for multiple connected game titles, robust validation strategies, swift engine-level debugging, and automated regression testing are essential to keeping their platform seamless for developer teams and players alike. In this embedded role, you will sit directly within the central engine domain to own quality validation gates for major Unreal Engine upgrades (UE4/UE5), ensure shared plugin compatibility, and validate client-server API integrations. You will act as a core technical anchor by troubleshooting cook/package failures, inspecting call stacks and crash dumps, and integrating automated test suites directly into CI/CD pipelines.

Most Important

  • 5+ years of Technical QA or SDET experience working inside Unreal Engine 4 and/or 5, with deep knowledge of modules, build systems, asset pipelines, and cook/package execution.
  • Strong ability to read, debug, and write C++ alongside visual Blueprints to dive directly into engine code and troubleshoot low-level bugs.
  • Direct experience building automated test suites with Unreal Automation Framework or Gauntlet, alongside CI/CD tools (Jenkins or GitHub Actions) and source control (Perforce or Git).
  • Strong diagnostic capabilities parsing call stacks, analyzing crash logs, and profiling performance using tools like Unreal Insights.
  • Hands-on experience testing client-server systems, network replication, and third-party REST API integrations (e.g., RiotGamesAPI).
  • Must be able to maintain at least 6 hours of dedicated daily core business hours overlap with U.S. Pacific Standard Time.

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting central tech, platform, or core engine teams that serve multiple game projects simultaneously.
  • Multi-platform testing experience across Consoles (Xbox Series X, PS5) and Mobile (iOS, Android).
  • Scripting fluency in Python or Bash for building custom build-validation tools.
  • Exposure to live-service online gaming architectures and high-volume backend integrations.

Personal Traits

  • You naturally think like a game developer and a defender of quality. You care deeply about whether the engine builds cleanly but care even more about whether the game teams relying on your work can iterate smoothly without running into frustrating blockers.
  • You run toward broken builds with eagerness to find a solution. When a cook fails or an engine upgrade introduces a mysterious regression, your instinct is to roll up your sleeves, pull up the crash logs, bring clarity to the noise, and fix the actual problem.
  • You love facilitating the engineering process for the team. Rather than acting as a gatekeeper who slows down releases with rigid manual testing, you focus on building reliable automated tools...
