About the Role

Join one of the world’s largest media and information services companies, working at the core of its global content platform. This high-impact role focuses on building intelligent retrieval and reasoning systems on top of a massive archive of world-class journalism. You will design and develop advanced AI-powered search and discovery experiences, leveraging multi-modal retrieval techniques and agentic workflows. The role is heavily backend focused, combining Python based AI systems with scalable Node.js services to deliver production-grade APIs powering global platforms. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of AI, search, and large-scale content systems, collaborating with data scientists and AI engineers to unlock new ways of interacting with decades of information.

Most Important

• Senior engineering foundation with 7+ years of experience in backend or distributed systems.
• Strong backend development skills in Node.js, TypeScript, and Express.js, at least basic experience with Python
• Experience with containerization tools (Docker) and manage pipelines via CircleCI.
• Experience with AI orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangChain, OpenAI AgentKit, LangGraph).
• Solid experience with advanced IaC: Terraform
• Experience designing scalable APIs and microservices for complex data systems.
• Deep understanding of AWS or any cloud platforms
• Strong communication skills, with experience collaborating across multiple engineering teams.

Nice to Have

• Experience in the media, publishing, or newsroom technology space, especially in large-scale content platforms or digital journalism environments.
• Familiarity with legacy systems (e.g., PHP) and migration work
• Experience in startup or fast-paced product environments, including GTM exposure
• Experience working with globally distributed teams across multiple time zones

Do you provide paid vacation?

X-Team doesn’t offer paid vacation time but can arrange for vacation time. We encourage you to incorporate vacation time, health insurance, etc... into your hourly rate.

Will I be working full-time or part-time hours?

At X-Team, we only hire people who can fully dedicate themselves to a project. That means a standard 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Do I need to take care of my own taxes?

Yes. Because we hire you as a full-time contractor, you’ll need to take care of your own taxes. If this is your first time doing so, we recommend you get the advice of a qualified tax advisor to understand the requirements of your country.
