About Buffer

We create social media and brand-building software for small businesses, creators, and individuals. Our mission is to provide essential tools to help small businesses get off the ground and grow. Through exceptional customer service and uplifting content, we help our customers believe they can succeed and do good along the way. Buffer is a fully distributed team, and we’ve always aimed to do things a little differently at Buffer. Since the early days, we’ve focused on building one of the most unique and fulfilling workplaces by rethinking a lot of traditional practices. We also default to transparency, so you can read all about our metrics, and our successes and failures along the way on our Transparency Dashboard. We're united by Buffer's values, and we hire and work from all over the world. We strive to create a diverse and inclusive work environment, and we are building a culture where underrepresented groups are welcome and can flourish. Please note that we do travel to work together in person once or twice per year, and those events are highly encouraged to build deeper connections among our small team. As you get to know Buffer and consider joining the journey, feel free to read more from Kirsti and Sabreen as they share their first experiences with Buffer, as well as from Hailley, who captured why she still calls Buffer home after 8+ years.

About the role

We're looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to join our Growth Marketing team. This is a hands-on engineering role building the web experiences and systems that help Buffer grow. The work spans building features and pages across buffer.com - interactive tools, benchmarks, referral systems, conversion flows - along with the technical implementation behind them: integrations with marketing tools, analytics and tracking systems, SEO implementations, and backend logic that powers our marketing features. We need someone who's comfortable across the full frontend scope - strong with React and modern web development, but also capable of diving into backend logic, connecting third-party APIs, debugging tracking pipelines, and figuring out what they don't know. You'll collaborate closely with Simon (Director of Marketing), David (Senior Design Engineer), and Kate (Senior Designer). The team values pace and iteration — we ship quickly, learn from real usage, and improve as we go. But we also care about craft — noticing the UX details and maintaining standards while keeping momentum.

What you’ll do

  • Lead growth engineering projects, like implementing a localization framework to support international audiences, building referral program logic and attribution systems, rebuilding our tracking implementation to improve accuracy and reliability. You’ll own projects from concept to launch, working closely with marketing, design, and other engineers.
  • Build features on Buffer's marketing site — ship landing pages, interactive tools, and conversion flows that help people discover and try Buffer. Create benchmarks, calculators,... utility content that educate users ...
  • Shape marketing platform capabilities by building systems ... Create A/B testing infrastructure ... develop programmatic page generation for SEO/AEO ... implement content management patterns ... build reusable components ...
  • Drive experimentation ... implement A/B tests ... optimize conversion funnels ... set up experiments ... validate results ... iterate based on what we learn ...
  • Improve foundations by maintaining integrations with marketing technology stack (Segment,GTM [Google Tag Manager], Mixpanel,BiqQuery), upgrading dependencies,... ensuring accessibility... participate in on-call rotation... fixing bugs,... security vulnerabilities...
  • Contribute to shaping engineering culture by pairing with engineers,... reviewing code,... sharing knowledge about growth systems... helping level up frontend work at Buffer.

Helpful skills & experience

  • Strong frontend foundations — solid experience with React,... TypeScript,... modern web development... Next.js...
  • Comfortable working across stack — writing backend logic,... API routes,... external systems,... third-party integrations...
  • Experience working with marketing/growth teams; SEO implementations; analytics; A/B testing infrastructure; conversion optimization; referral systems; programmatic pages; conversion funnels; tracking setup (Segment/GTM/Mixpanel)...
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity; thinking in systems — bring clarity; ask good questions; build scalable holistic solutions...
  • Personal stake in content creation world—newsletter or social media audience or own work online; used Buffer before...
  • Balance craft & pace — ship quickly & learn from usage but care about quality; notice UX details; maintain accessibility standards; think about performance...
  • Thrive in remote async environments — communicate clearly; support teammates; don’t wait for permission for progress;
  • Fluent with AI tools—use them for leverage & efficiency improvement... Bonus if integrated AI into user-facing marketing features at scale...
  • Likely 5+ years experience but depth & impact matter more than years count.

Our tech stack

  • Next.js v15+ with React & TypeScript for buffer.com (Pages router now; planning App router)... Express middleware (planning migration)...
  • Styling: CSS Modules & Motion animations... Radix UI & Base UI accessible components... Data visualizations using Recharts.
  • Marketing tech stack: Segment; Google Tag Manager (GTM); Mixpanel; BigQuery for tracking & analytics.
  • Content/data sources: Ghost CMS (blog), Redash; Notion; Google Sheets; various external APIs.
