About Buffer
We create social media and brand-building software for small businesses, creators, and individuals. Our mission is to provide essential tools to help small businesses get off the ground and grow. Through exceptional customer service and uplifting content, we help our customers believe they can succeed and do good along the way. Buffer is a fully distributed team, and we’ve always aimed to do things a little differently at Buffer. Since the early days, we’ve focused on building one of the most unique and fulfilling workplaces by rethinking a lot of traditional practices. We also default to transparency, so you can read all about our metrics, and our successes and failures along the way on our Transparency Dashboard. We're united by Buffer's values, and we hire and work from all over the world. We strive to create a diverse and inclusive work environment, and we are building a culture where underrepresented groups are welcome and can flourish. Please note that we do travel to work together in person once or twice per year, and those events are highly encouraged to build deeper connections among our small team.
About the role
We're looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to join our Growth Marketing team. This is a hands-on engineering role building the web experiences and systems that help Buffer grow. The work spans building features and pages across buffer.com - interactive tools, benchmarks, referral systems, conversion flows - along with the technical implementation behind them: integrations with marketing tools, analytics and tracking systems, SEO implementations, and backend logic that powers our marketing features. We need someone who's comfortable across the full frontend scope - strong with React and modern web development, but also capable of diving into backend logic, connecting third-party APIs, debugging tracking pipelines, and figuring out what they don't know. You'll collaborate closely with Simon (Director of Marketing), David (Senior Design Engineer), and Kate (Senior Designer). The team values pace and iteration — we ship quickly, learn from real usage, and improve as we go. But we also care about craft — noticing the UX details and maintaining standards while keeping momentum.
What you’ll do
- Lead growth engineering projects like implementing a localization framework to support international audiences.
- Build referral program logic and attribution systems.
- Rebuild tracking implementation to improve accuracy and reliability.
- Own projects from concept to launch working closely with marketing, design, and other engineers.
- Build features on Buffer's marketing site including landing pages, interactive tools, conversion flows.
- Create benchmarks, calculators, utility content that educate users and drive engagement.
- Shape marketing platform capabilities by building systems/frameworks for faster team movement.
- Create A/B testing infrastructure; develop programmatic page generation for SEO/AEO.
- Implement content management patterns; build reusable components for future projects.
- Drive experimentation/optimization through A/B tests; optimize conversion funnels; validate results; iterate based on learnings.
- Maintain integrations with marketing technology stack (Segment, GTM, Mixpanel, BigQuery).
- Upgrade dependencies; optimize performance; ensure accessibility.
- Participate in on-call rotation; contribute to system health by fixing bugs/security vulnerabilities/improvements.
- Pair with engineers; review code; share knowledge about growth systems/marketing engineering patterns; help level up frontend work culture at Buffer.
Helpful skills and experience
- Strong frontend foundations: React, TypeScript, modern web development (Next.js preferred but adaptability valued).
- Comfortable working across stack: backend logic/APIs/external system integrations.
- Experience with marketing/growth teams: SEO analytics A/B testing conversion optimization; built referral systems/programmatic pages/conversion funnels; set up tracking/validate implementations/measure impact accurately.
- Navigate ambiguity/thinking in systems: bring clarity/ask good questions/build scalable holistic solutions.
- Personal stake in content creation world: newsletter/social media audience/buffer user caring about content planning/creating/publishing experience.
- Balance craft with pace: ship quickly learn from usage care about quality UX details accessibility standards performance polish vs iterate decisions.
- Thrive in remote async environments: clear communication support teammates proactive progress cross-functional collaboration explain technical decisions non-tech stakeholders.
- Fluent with AI tools for leverage efficiency; bonus if integrated AI into user-facing marketing features at scale (personalized content generation asset automation intelligent systems).
- Typically 5+ years experience but depth/impact matter more than years count.
