About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Engineer to join Buffer's Growth Marketing team. This hands-on role involves building web experiences, systems, and infrastructure that help Buffer grow. Work includes features across buffer.com, interactive tools, referral systems, conversion flows, integrations with marketing tools, analytics/tracking systems, SEO infrastructure, and backend logic powering marketing features. Buffer aims to help the next 200,000 creators and small teams build their brands. This role is central to building growth systems, experiments, and infrastructure that connect people with Buffer at the right moment. The ideal candidate is comfortable across full frontend scope (strong React skills), backend logic, third-party API integration, debugging tracking pipelines. The team values pace and iteration while maintaining UX quality. Buffer culture emphasizes collaboration and positivity with "No Ego Doers" who test ideas as a team.

Who you'll work with

  • Reports to Kateryna Porshnieva, Head of Engineering Operations.
  • Part of the Marketing team.
  • Collaborate with Simon Heaton (Director of Growth Marketing), Hailley Griffis (Head of Communications and Content).
  • Work closely with Kate Baldrey (Marketing UX Designer).

What you'll do

  • Own growth engineering projects end-to-end: localization framework for international audiences; referral program logic; attribution systems; rebuilding tracking infrastructure.
  • Build features on Buffer's marketing site: landing pages, interactive tools, conversion flows; create benchmarks/calculators/utility content.
  • Shape marketing platform capabilities: A/B testing infrastructure; programmatic page generation for SEO/AEO; content management patterns; reusable components.
  • Drive experimentation/optimization: set up experiments; validate results; iterate balancing speed with quality.
  • Maintain integrations with marketing tech stack (Segment, GTM, Mixpanel, BigQuery); upgrade dependencies; optimize performance; ensure accessibility.
  • Participate in on-call rotation; contribute to system health.
  • Help shape engineering culture: pair programming; code reviews; share knowledge about growth systems/marketing engineering patterns.

Helpful skills and experience

  • Strong frontend foundations in React, TypeScript, modern web development.
  • Comfortable writing backend logic/API routes/third-party integrations.
  • Experience or knowledge in marketing/growth including SEO, analytics A/B testing conversion optimization.
  • Ability to measure impact via data-driven approaches.
  • Think beyond immediate tasks focusing on system connections and details while shipping iteratively.
  • Thrive in remote async environments with clear communication across teams.
  • Experience building AI into user-facing marketing features at scale; daily use of AI tools encouraged.
  • Personal stake in content creation (newsletter/social media/audience building); familiarity with Buffer product experience preferred.

  • Next.js v15+ with React & TypeScript (Pages router currently used; migrating to App router).
  • Express middleware for some routing (planning migration).
  • Styling: CSS Modules & Motion animations.
  • UI components: Radix UI & Base UI (migrating gradually).
  • Data visualizations using Recharts.
  • Marketing tech stack: Segment Google Tag Manager (GTM) Mixpanel BigQuery.
  • Content/data sources: Ghost CMS (blog) Redash Notion Google Sheets external APIs.

7. Final Interview: Meet Executive Leadership team for deeper understanding of strategy & culture. 8. Collaboration Period: Paid 2-day real project trial working with the team to assess fit both ways.
