An overview of this role

As Senior Manager, Developer Advocacy, you will:

  • Inspire and enable developers to be more productive with GitLab.
  • Combine team leadership and hands-on technical advocacy with strategic thinking.
  • Lead a team of Developer Advocates creating technical content and engaging the community.
  • Craft demos, tutorials, blog posts; code alongside developers; engage with the community.
  • Identify developer needs to inform GitLab's roadmap.
  • Work cross-functionally with R&D, Marketing, and Sales to influence product and GTM strategy.
  • Focus on emerging technologies like AI coding assistants.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and develop a team of Developer Advocates.
  • Coordinate team efforts across content, engagement, and cross-functional work.
  • Create technical content: tutorials, demos, conference talks showcasing GitLab's DevSecOps capabilities.
  • Engage directly with developers to understand workflows and challenges.
  • Synthesize community feedback into actionable insights for Product and Engineering teams.
  • Build and maintain demo environments showcasing platform capabilities (CI/CD, security scanning, AI-powered development).
  • Collaborate with customers for technical guidance and real-world use cases.
  • Measure and report advocacy impact using data.

What You’ll Bring

  • 4+ years leading developer advocacy teams or 7+ years in developer advocacy/relations/technical evangelism roles.
  • Deep understanding of DevOps practices and modern software development workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with Git workflows and collaborative development practices.
  • Knowledge of AI coding assistants integration into development workflows.
  • Proven track record creating technical content (blogs, videos, workshops).
  • Strong coding skills for building demos and contributing to open source projects.
  • Experience gathering/synthesizing technical feedback from diverse user communities.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills adaptable to different audiences.
  • Data-driven mindset measuring content/program effectiveness.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a remote, asynchronous environment.

About the team

The Developer Advocacy team is globally distributed. They drive adoption through content creation, customer/community engagement, and influencing company strategy aligned with user needs. The team collaborates closely with Product, Engineering, and Marketing.

Salary Information (United States)

Base salary range: $154,600 - $331,200 USD Note: Salary range applies to US residents only; excludes bonuses/equity/benefits.
