ABOUT US:
Volta Labs is a Boston-based, venture-backed biotech startup revolutionizing genomics through their flagship product Callisto. The company focuses on making genetic information extraction simple and accessible by speeding up processing time for scientists and patients.
THE TEAM:
- Join a collaborative team passionate about automation, biology, computing, robotics, design, and user experience.
- Report to a Senior Scientist.
- Participate in design and development of genomics sample prep applications for a digital fluidics sample prep automation platform.
- Ideal candidate is energetic, detail-oriented, collaborative, curious, creative, and enjoys problem-solving and workflow improvement.
Day 1 to Year 1 Responsibilities:
- Execute experiments following good laboratory practice and standard protocols.
- Document procedures, data, observations in electronic lab notebook.
- Summarize and present findings in team meetings.
- Participate in experimental design, data analysis, report writing.
- Identify inefficiencies or bottlenecks in lab workflows; propose improvements.
- Use scripting, spreadsheets, or AI-assisted workflows to automate tasks and improve efficiency.
- Assist with reagent ordering, inventory, equipment maintenance.
- Maintain clean work area and equipment.
Within the first 3 months:
- Learn Callisto platform and genomics workflows.
- Execute core sample prep, library prep, QC, NGS applications under guidance.
- Become comfortable with lab standards and data analysis workflows.
- Contribute to experiments and troubleshooting.
- Shadow experienced team members.
Within 6 months:
- Independently execute and troubleshoot experiments.
- Contribute to workflow optimization by identifying bottlenecks and validating improvements.
- Use scripting/spreadsheets/AI tools to streamline tasks.
- Help create/refine protocols and documentation.
- Present data and recommendations confidently.
At 12+ months:
- Trusted technical contributor owning experiments or sub-workflows end-to-end.
- Serve as go-to resource for assays/workflows/troubleshooting.
- Establish best practices for execution/documentation/workflow optimization.
- Mentor newer team members.
- Continue improving work processes.
Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 per year (target compensation range across U.S. locations; actual pay depends on experience/education/skill level) Benefits:
