About the role: We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build the core platform that will make Samsara “agentic.” This platform enables agentic development by coordinating intelligent agents to automate complex tasks. The system will scale from a small set of specialized agents today to dozens in production over the next year. This zero-to-one work involves defining core primitives, solving hard systems problems, and building service components relied on by other teams. The work covers full stack development behind agents including greenfield products, modalities, internal tooling, evaluations, and observability. This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US or Canada. Relocation assistance is not provided. You should apply if:

In this role, you will:

• Build core infrastructure for multi-agent orchestration: task planning, coordination, execution, recovery
• Define and implement platform primitives/abstractions enabling internal teams to build/deploy new agents
• Design reliable backend services/APIs for agent discovery, state management, scheduling, observability
• Architect systems supporting scale, resilience,long-running workflows across multiple concurrent agents
• Collaborate with internal teams building agents to refine APIs/tooling/operational feedback loops
• Drive technical decisions in high-ambiguity early-stage environment with rapidly evolving requirements
• Own systems end-to-end: design implementation testing deployment production operation

Minimum requirements for the role:

• 4+ years Software Engineering experience
• Strong software engineering fundamentals; experience building production systems
• Senior-level experience with high-scale backend or distributed systems
• Proficiency in Python
• Strong system design skills; production reliability mindset
• Comfortable working across stack as needed
• Ability to operate in fast-moving ambiguous environments

An ideal candidate also has:

• Experience with Go
• Experience with agentic/autonomous systems orchestration platforms workflow engines automation infrastructure
• Familiarity with observability tooling distributed tracing event-driven systems
• Experience designing APIs/internal tooling used by other engineering teams

Samsara’s Compensation Philosophy: Compensation includes base salary + bonus/variable + restricted stock unit awards (RSUs) for eligible roles. New hire RSU awards may be granted at hire time; additional RSU refresh grants may be awarded annually. Top performers may receive above-market equity refresh awards. Salary range (annual base) for this position: $187000—$220000 USD (varies by location/experience).
