Job Description

Software Engineer (Junior/Intermediate)

Location: United States Employment Type: Full-time Remote: Remote Seniority Level: Entry, Mid Level Salary: $150K/yr - $200K/yr

Company

Automat

Legacy RPA is brittle, expensive, and slow to deploy.

  • Founded: 2023
  • Location: San Francisco, California, USA
  • Employees: 11-50 employees
  • Website: [https://runautomat.com](https://runautomat.com)

Automat is a company focused on redefining Enterprise Agentic Process Automation and Intelligent Document Processing. They are seeking product-minded Full Stack Engineers to develop and expand their product suite, while collaborating closely with senior engineers to build scalable core product infrastructure. Industry Keywords: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Enterprise Software, SaaS, Agentic AI, Robotic Process Automation (RPA)

Responsibilities

  • Work within our Core Engineering team to develop and expand our product suite, from our Enterprise grade Automat Studio, to our state of the art Agentic Workflow Builder and beyond
  • Build interfaces which leverage cutting-edge computer use models to automate and accelerate real world Enterprise workflows across finance, banking, healthcare, e-commerce, and more
  • Collaborate with our Forward Deployed Team to understand how customers interact with Automat’s platform today, and use those learnings to bolster our Agentic Workflow Builder and Developer Toolkit
  • Develop beautiful and intuitive UX interfaces which abstract away complex business automation processes and create a seamless experience for non-technical users and engineers alike
  • Create robust, enterprise grade back-end infrastructure and services to power our Fortune 500 customers' workflows at scale
  • Influence our engineering practices, shape product direction, and contribute to building a world class company culture

Qualification

Required

  • Fullstack fundamentals — you've shipped production features across frontend + backend, and you understand APIs, databases, auth, and deployment
  • Strong product/engineering judgment — you know when to ship a scrappy v0, and when to slow down to fix a bug properly or refactor a hotspot
  • Modern web stack experience — comfortable with tools like Next.js, and eager to learn/ship with platforms like Supabase and Vercel
  • AI as a multiplier — you can leverage tools like Cursor/Windsurf/Claude to scaffold, debug, and iterate, while relying on good engineering habits (reviews, tests, logs, monitoring) to keep quality high
  • Clear communication — you ask good questions, share progress early, and handle feedback well
  • Comfort with ambiguity (with support) — you can take a loosely defined problem, propose a plan, and iterate toward a solution
  • Hands-on experience with AI coding tools (Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code, etc.) and a habit of validating results
  • Strong UX instincts — you care about speed, clarity, and making things intuitive
  • High initiative — you don't wait to be told what to do; you find the next useful step and take it
  • Ownership mindset — you leave code cleaner than you found it and follow issues through to completion
  • Startup curiosity — you're excited by fast-paced environments, learning by doing, and shipping frequently
