Sr. Engineering Manager, Platform

Location: New York City, San Francisco (US preferred; remote considered for exceptional candidates) Employment Type: Full Time

Lead two teams (Reliability & Resilience and Developer Productivity) with 7 engineers, growing to 10+.
Own strategy, execution, and people leadership across core platform and operational domains including local developer environments, CI/CD, Kubernetes, API gateway, storage and caching, observability, secrets management, cost and capacity management, SaaS vendor relationships.
Report to Sr. Director of Engineering.
If based near SF, NY, London, or Berlin offices: in-office anchor days on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.

Lead and grow teams; set org structure, hiring plan, delivery goals.
Own platform roadmap for development velocity, iteration speed, availability, deployment safety.
Build reliability practice: manage SLOs/error budgets, incident response/postmortems.
Operate/evolve core platform services: API gateway, storage/caching infrastructure, secrets management, observability.
Manage capacity and cost: forecasting, right-sizing, tuning, spend governance.
Manage SaaS vendor relationships including evaluation and contracts.

3+ years managing engineers (managing managers a plus).
Hands-on technical depth in Kubernetes production operations and CI/CD systems.
Experience owning key platform dependencies like API gateways, caches, petabyte-scale KV stores/databases.
Proven ownership of reliability programs with measurable downtime reductions.
8+ years building/operating large-scale distributed systems.

Located in US preferably NYC or SF; remote considered for exceptional candidates.
In-office anchor days required if within commuting distance of SF/NY/London/Berlin offices.

$208000 - $300000 (adjusted by location).
