About the Role: Gusto’s Data Science team uses rich datasets for product direction and decision-making. The role is for a technical leader (individual contributor) to drive machine learning and AI in payments and risk domains. Responsibilities include building a model-driven risk platform for the Gusto Ecosystem. Collaboration with teams across Engineering, Product, Design, Operation, Identity and Compliance is expected to build platforms spanning Payments and Risk Stacks using ML/AI to create a secure platform safeguarding users’ activities and money. Day-to-day responsibilities:
- Build and deploy machine learning models to identify, assess and mitigate risks
- Drive research in problem space; work with stakeholders on model requirements; develop models from scratch; deploy models with engineering counterparts; monitor/maintain model performance
- Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Design and Product teams in Payment and Risk
- Develop scalable frameworks/libraries enhancing core analysis/modeling capabilities including integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) for improved data processing/analysis/insights
- Identify new opportunities leveraging data to improve products and help risk management understand business requirements for tailored solutions
- Present results to stakeholders across company
Qualifications:
- 8+ years experience with statistical analyses on large datasets; deep domain knowledge in ML/AI including familiarity with LLMs
- Experience in credit risk modeling or fraud risk modeling using logistic regression, random forest, Xgboost or neural networks
- Strong understanding of AI-based approaches including LLMs enhancing traditional models
- Experience applying various statistical/modeling techniques using Python/R or other languages including predictive modeling, anomaly detection, ensemble methods; NLP optional
- Strong programming skills covering all phases from analysis/model development to deployment
- Excellent communication skills for delivering findings/recommendations to non-technical stakeholders clearly
- PhD or Masters plus equivalent experience is a plus
- Fintech industry experience is a plus
